PRESS RELEASE The Outcomes of the Executive Committee Meeting of the 43rd ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA-43) Phnom Penh, 20 November 2022

On the evening of 20th November 2022, Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei HENG SAMRIN, President of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Cambodia and President of the 43rd ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), led the discussion of the AIPA Executive Committee Meeting before the official inaugural ceremony of the 43rd AIPA (AIPA-43) to be held on 21st November 2022. Speakers and Vice-Speakers from eight AIPA Member Parliaments, namely Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Viet Nam, including the delegation of the host and AIPA Secretary General attended the Executive Committee Meeting.H.E. Mr Chuon LEEPAI, President of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Thailand, was appointed as Vice-Chair of the Meeting.

 

The Meeting concluded with the adoption of the programme of activities and agenda of the 43rd AIPA General Assembly, including the Meeting of the Committee of Women Parliamentarians of AIPA (WAIPA), AIPA Young Parliamentarians (YPA), Political Matters, Economic Matters, Social Matters, Organisational Matters, Dialogue with Observer Parliaments and AIPA-ASEAN Hearing.

 

Moreover, Indonesia was approved to be the host of the 44th AIPA General Assembly in August 2023. The Meeting also welcomed the proposal for accreditation as AIPA Observers by the House of Representatives of the United States of America, the House of the Representatives of Nepal, the National Assembly of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Parliament of Georgia, which will be further discussed for approval at the Meeting of the Committee on Organisational Matters on 22nd November 2022.

 

The Meeting took note of the proposal by the National Assembly of Azerbaijan to forge more robust cooperation with the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network (NAM-AP) and the proposal of the European Parliament to bolster stronger cooperation with AIPA. The Meeting also approved the inclusion of an emergency item proposed by Indonesia on immediate implementation of the ASEAN Five-Points consensus for the settlement of the crisis in Myanmar in the agenda of the Meeting of the Committee on Political Matters on 22nd November 2022.
