AIPA-43’s Economic Committee Meeting Promotes Parliamentary Cooperation for Economic Growth Through Environmental, Social and Governance Approaches . . .

The AIPA-43’s Committee on Economic Matters held its Meeting to discuss three draft resolutions as follows:

    Promoting Parliamentary Cooperation for Sustainable and Inclusive Growth in the ASEAN Through Environmental, Social and Governance Approaches;
    Capacity building of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the digital transformation;
    Promoting digital innovation for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in tourism to accelerate economic recovery.

The Meeting took place on the morning of 22 November 2022 at Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel, and was chaired by H.E. Mr. Chheang Vun, Member of the National Assembly Permanent Committee, with the participation of H.E. Mr. Ty Sokun, Member of the National Assembly and head of the Cambodian parliamentary delegation, and H.E. Mr. Yim Leat, Member of the National Assembly, rapporteur, along with the representatives of AIPA member parliaments from seven countries, namely Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Laos, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

It was held in the traditional spirit of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of Friendship, Unity and Cooperation.

The Meeting approved three draft resolutions, and also discussed the promotion of sustainable growth in the region, economic recovery, and the support for existing agreements, especially the Free Trade Agreement on Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).

The Meeting also discussed the contributions made by AIPA member parliaments in promoting business connectivity, green investment, clean energy development, sustainable and inclusive use of digital in trade and cross-border trade in the region.

After reaching agreement, the Meeting has submitted the aforementioned three draft resolutions to Second Plenary Session of the 43rd AIPA to be adopted on 23 November 2022.
