AIPA-43 Political Matters Committee Meeting Discusses and Approves Five Draft Resolutions

The Committee on Political Matters of the AIPA-43 held its Meeting on the morning of 22 November 2022 at Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel and Residence to discuss five draft resolutions to adopted at the Second Plenary Session, which will be held on Day Four of the General Assembly, 23 November 2022.

Participating delegations in the Meeting were from Member Parliaments of Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

The Meeting was chaired by His Excellency Hun Many, Member of the Permanent Committee of the National Assembly and Chair of the Meeting of the Committee on Political Matters of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA43), with the participation of His Excellency Sous Yara, Member of the Permanent Committee of the National Assembly and head of Cambodian parliamentary delegation, and His Excellency Cheam Pe A, Member of the National Assembly, who was the Rapporteur.

This Political Committee Meeting aims to strengthen AIPA-ASEAN dialogue and partnership in tackling common challenges, and acting together to enhance ASEAN Centrality for peace prosperity, rules-basedinternational order and open and inclusive multilateralism.

AIPA-43 Political Matters Committee Meetingdiscussed and approved five draft resolutions as follows:

1-    Draft resolution on the Report of the 13th AIPA Caucus;

2-    Draft resolution onthe Report of the ASEAN-AIPA Leader’s Interface during the 40th and 41st ASEAN Summits;

3-    Draft resolution on Promoting Peace, Solidarity and Multilateralism through ASEAN Centrality;

4-    Draft resolution on Enhancing Parliamentary Diplomacy on Maritime Security to Forster Regional Stability in Southeast Asia;

5-    Draft resolution on Parliamentary Diplomacy for the Implementation of Five-Point Consensus for Myanmar.

The Meeting was concluded smoothly in an atmosphere of solidarity and good cooperation, while it agreed to include the said five resolutions in the agenda to be approved at the Second Plenary Session, which will be held on the morning of 23 November 2022.
