National Assembly and AIPA-43 President Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei HENG SAMRIN Presides Over the First Plenary Session of AIPA-43 11/22/2022 5:59:02 PM After the official opening ceremony, on the afternoon of 21 November 2022, Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei HENG SAMRIN, President of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Cambodia and President of the 43^rdAIPA General Assembly, presided over the First Plenary Session at Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel. During the Plenary Session, Samdech President approved the nomination of all heads of AIPA delegations as the Vice-Chairs of the Plenary Session of the 43^rd AIPA. The General Assembly’s First Plenary Session, which was held under the theme of “Advancing Together for Sustainable, Inclusive and Resilient ASEAN” composed of parliamentary delegations from eighth ASEAN member parliaments, and made a statement stressing the importance of the 43^rd AIPA General Assembly, which is a forum for discussion and dialogue towards a fruitful outcome so as to uplift its prestigious roles on regional and international stage. The AIPA member parliaments also highlighted the importance of the roles of this ASEAN legislative institution in promoting regional cooperation in the interests of stability, security, economy, investment, tourism, as well as post Covid-19 crisis socio-economic recovery. AIPA member parliaments also stressed the need to continue to enhance cooperation and closer engagement between regional parliaments and dialogue partners in order to respond more effectively to regional and global challenges. In their statement, His Excellency Tran Duc Binh, Deputy Secretary-General (DSG) of ASEAN for Community and Corporate Affairs, and AIPA Secretary General Her Excellency Nguyen Tuong Van highly appreciated the close cooperation made between AIPA and ASEAN during the past which has brought about steady development, in which ASEAN has urged AIPA parliaments’ participation in the discussion of regional and global cooperation to build a shared future community together. The First Plenary Session was adjourned at 14:45, and will resume at 16:00 to further discuss and adopt statements by heads of observer parliament and statements by guests of the host.
