The AIPA-43 Second Plenary Session Approves Six Committees’ Reports, Handovers Flags to Newly​Accredited AIPA Observer Parliaments

The AIPA-43 General Assembly, which is held under the themes of "Avancing Together for Sustainable, Inclusive and Resilient ASEAN", opened its Second Plenary Session on 23 November 2022 at the Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel and Residence, and adopted the reports of the six AIPA Committees, as well as conferred the AIPA observer status to three more parliaments, namely the U.S. Congress, the National Assembly of Nepal and Milli Majelis of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
 

 

 

 
Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei HENG SAMRIN, President of the National Assembly of Cambodia and Rotating President of AIPA-43, presided over the Second Plenary Session with the participation of parliamentary delegations from eight ASEAN Member Parliaments, which consists of Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
 
 
The Reports presented by the six AIPA Committees: 1) The Committee on Women Parliamentarians of AIPA (WAIPA); 2) Meeting of Young Parliamentarians of AIPA (YPA); 3) Committee on Political Matters; 4) Committee on Economic Matters; 5) Committee on Social Matters and 6) Committee on Organizational Matters were adopted by the Plenary.
 
 
All AIPA Committees’ draft resolutions were lively discussed by each Committee on 21 November 2022.
 
 
The Plenary also held a flag hand-over ceremony to the above-mentioned three AIPA Observers.
 
 
AIPA-43 Chair Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei HENG SMRIN highlighted the importance and roles of the ASEAN Member Parliaments in promoting regional cooperation for the sake of stability, security, economy, investment, tourism, and speeding up post Covid-19 socio-economic recovery.
 
 
The President added that the AIPA-43 is a reflection of the closer cooperation among regional parliaments and dialogue partners in effective response to current regional and global challenges.
It is noted that ten AIPA member countries are Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
