Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei HENG SAMRIN, President of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Cambodia and Rotating President of the 43rd ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA-43), led a high-level AIPA delegations to attend ASEAN-AIPA Leaders' Interface Meeting with ASEAN leaders led by Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo HUN SEN, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia and 2022 ASEAN Chair, at the Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel and Residence this afternoon, Thursday, 10 November 2022.

 

Addressing the Meeting, Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei HENG SAMRIN said that today, ASEAN, along with the rest of the world is at an inflection point in the face of a myriad of intertwined and increasingly complex regional and international challenges. He stressed that parliamentary diplomacy is becoming even more crucial in forming multi-stakeholder approach to address emerging complex regional and global issues based on our common values of the AIPA as enshrined in its statute, inter-alia to promote the principles of human rights, democracy, peace, security and prosperity in ASEAN.

 

The high-level gathering between the legislative and executive branches is a milestone event of the ASEAN Summit, which explores common ground, and renews existing cooperation, as well as the exchange of views and experiences towards a common objective of achieving prosperity for the people of ASEAN.

 

In the meantime, 43rd ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA-43) President Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei HENG SAMRIN went on to say that AIPA fully supports Cambodia’s proposed theme of ASEAN this year “ASEAN A.C.T.: Addressing Challenges Together”, which is more relevant and timely than ever before in consistent with the current global evolving situation.

 

The President further stressed that the proposed theme for the upcoming 43rd AIPA General Assembly, which will be held at the end of this month, entitled “Advancing Together for Sustainable, Inclusive and Resilient ASEAN”, centering on the post-Covid-19 socio-economic recovery, as well as strengthening multilateralism aimed at ensuring regional peace and security.

 

It is worth mentioning that as the rotating chair of AIPA 2022, the Cambodian Parliament will host the 43rd AIPA General Assembly from 20 to 25 November soon after the hosting of the 40th and 41st ASEAN Summits and related meetings by the Royal Government of Cambodia.

 

Lastly, Samdech 43rd AIPA President stated that dialogue and consultation in the Meeting has been very productive so as to ensure that ASEAN centrality and unity are upheld, while working together to beef up the post-COVID-19 recovery in order to build the resilient and prosperous ASEAN Community.
